The evolution of pharmaceutical logistics in the heart of the Paris district

The project developed by Sinteco for AGEPS, the logistics center of the AP-HP group: Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris, stands as an extraordinary example of automation applied to pharmaceutical management.

AGEPS, the key supplier for the 38 hospitals of Europe’s largest university hospital network, has embarked on an ambitious journey to transform its entire supply chain, addressing the growing needs for efficiency, sustainability, innovation and safety.

The goal: revolutionizing pharmaceutical logistics

AGEPS is the beating heart of pharmaceutical distribution for the AP-HP network, supplying medicines and healthcare products to all hospitals in the Paris district.
The project, developed in collaboration with Sinteco, aims to:

  • Automate the production and distribution of unit doses to ensure maximum accuracy and safety.
  • Optimize logistics flows to reduce restocking times and guarantee seven days of inventory in hospital pharmacies.
  • Reduce environmental impact by adopting sustainable technologies.

The Sinteco solution

Sinteco addressed AGEPS’s needs by developing a modular and flexible system capable of growing alongside the client’s requirements. The solutions implemented include:

  • Box line: Six machines for management and labeling.
  • Unit doses: One blister production line and another line for alternative forms, using machines such as Calypso OS Stick, Hydra Stick, Calypso All, Hydra All, and Hemera.
  • Logistics automation: Integration of Pegasus Stick, an innovative system for storing unit doses produced by the logistics center and dispensing personalized prescriptions to hospital departments.

The project foresees the production of 30 million unit doses annually, sufficient to meet the needs of the entire Paris region, with a long-term goal of serving 6,000 beds.

Initial phase and achieved results

The project's first phase covered four hospitals, ensuring the supply of over 1,500 beds. Results achieved include:

  • IT standardization: Integration of Sinteco technologies with AP-HP’s IT network via Athena software.
  • Logistics efficiency: Regular restocking twice a week, directly into the Pegasus systems of hospital pharmacies.
